The student didn't receive full points because the math was incorrect. Often times if the extra credit is creative enough I will still post it even if it needs to be slightly changed. In this case, the dart board would have to be tweaked so that the whole board covers Real Number. It's a good idea though. It would be a fun project in the classroom.

You do realize the poster is wrong; irrational numbers are still real. Irrational numbers include pi, and the suare root of 2.
Complex numbers, which include i, are not real.
Actually, the dartboard model doesn't work at all.
